Just sent in my letter for a refund on my space in January at the Tyson Wells Sell-a-Rama. Have now 'officially' decided not to do the event. Don't know when and where my next show will be. Hibernating right now.

They are not worried about renting out my spot because it's a very good space, except when you have winds of 70 mph or more and you don't have a large RV parked alongside you to protect you from the wind.

Oh oh oh! Did YOU ALL get the letter from Quartzsite like us??? Telling us that since our tax number was issued before 2009 that we had to pay a "one time fee" of FORTY DOLLARS! What a crock!!!! Even when I'm not there, I lose money!

I haven't seen it yet. I heard something about this a couple weeks ago. It's like kicking you when you are down on the ground. Every$&(#&@ing body's got their hands in our pockets. Do they think that we are money machines?

I guess most of the snowbirds have arrived in AZ. So, what you see is what you get. I will not be selling anyplace in January and I don't know about February. The 70 mile per hour winds are unusual for the Quartzsite area. I wouldn't worry too much about the weather there. But I would be cautious and be prepared. Like I said, they had three bad storms there in the past year - Sep 09, Dec 09 and in January. If another tornado comes buy and swoops you up and drops you off in Kansas..... Just kidding. I'd mostly be worried about the economy.

is every year the Quartzsite will have 70 miles strong wind? i do know that there are a few day rain in Quartzsite. this is only my second year in Quartzsite, Tyson wells. Or higher! The 2 years we attended it was brutal on at least 2 occasions. With much higher than 70MPH winds for sure! We were parked the 1st year (2008)at the Big Tent when it totally collapsed, and the second year (2009)we were at Tyson Wells and the wind ripped down the last aisle, which is next to the wash and bridge) and eliminated it, just like it did for Dave last year. The flash floods came in and everything was a river. I am going to miss everyone there, and I thought hard about going anyhow. I really like Kim, and Charlie, and the vendors are like family, but I admit, I was still wiping Quartzsite dust off license plates I took to Texas this year! There were days that the dust was so thick that everything you ate and drank was covered in dirt. You would wake up the next day UNABLE TO OPEN YOUR EYES, as they were glued shut. Several vendors were considering going to "AVI" because it was a paved lot.

Not too early. When I was there in 2009, the Northern region had an early snowfall that landlocked the Canadian's, Washington's, Oregonian's, Dakotan's, Montanan's etc in their state and they couldn't shovel their trailers out of their driveway and safely make it down to Quartzsite. It kind of hurt the whole scene. Dakota territory is getting their share of it already. Too early for me!!!

You are so right about people being like a family. Kym, Charlie, etc., are all great and they have been truly wonderful to deal with.
The weather has been getting worse the past couple years out there in Tyson/Quartzsite and anybody in those back rows are going to be subjected to the weather more than anybody there. Always have had to deal with that blowing sand and getting it over all our things. Many T-shirts, fannypacks, etc., ruined from it.
I don't think that Cloud's Jamboree at the AVI Casino gets the traffic flow that Tyson gets; but then again there weren't a hell of a lot of people walking through (Tyson) after the first few days when there were quite a few shows around drawing the people in. I just checked and saw that they were charging $400 for spaces, which is a bit high, but I do believe that you can stick your RV's in there. Approximately 9 years ago, Clouds was held in Quartzsite, down on the far end. Don't know exactly why they moved out.
Back to the weather in Tyson. I had been lucky to have had a big 5th Wheel on the side of my two canopies there for a couple years and that blocked the wind. This past year it wasn't there and I felt the full force of those winds. You always have at least 4-5 days of very strong winds each year. If you happen to get a storm in, life can be absolutely miserable. I've heard the stories about the big tent over there and fortunately nobody (I think) was injured. Only a matter of time. The weather has been getting progressively worse the past 3 years there and if you are in those back 3-4 rows in Tyson, you'd better watch out.

Will warm up to 70 degrees in another week or so. i just come back from Quartzsite/Tyson Wells shows, i do 2 shows Rock and Gems and the Sellarama. i am doing good. this year, we have good weather except we have a few days which are very windy like the last sunday of the Sellarama and luckily it is the last day of the show, many vendors are packing to go home around 2pm. i start to pack around 4pm and fill my car with the merchandises and come back monday to disassemble the tent, tent stakes and nails. the only bad in quartzsite is very dry and sandy. i heard some vendors are doing the same as last year and some are down. it really depend on what products you sell.

Hibernating right now. just to let you know they claim the Sellarama is full but it is not. there are a lot of vendors no show to this show too. the whole row of Y and Z are half empty. i guess they are scare of the wind or the rain so they do not want to be in the last 2 rows. i do manage to move up 1 row to row X. my neighbour who is supposed to be in X1 and no show, another vendor who drive up monday morning get his good space X1 which is usually not avaliable!

Nice to hear from you again. Hopefully other people will chime in.
I don't think that anybody wants to be in those two back rows. Absolutely nothing to block that wind. I'd love to have X1. Right on the end and highly visible. I guess that they had good crowds because of the good weather. I've been watching the forecasts and it looks like no rain for the entire month. A little cold sometimes in the morning - 27 degrees today? When it's cloudy and windy, people don't feel like buying. They put on their hoods and keep their hands in their pockets. When it's 70-75 degrees and sunny, the people are energized and feel good. They buy more.... that's what I needed last year. The whole thing was a disaster in 2010.
