Apparently we are not picking up any new members and we have a bunch of people cruising by. We have the usual people popping in and out telling abut their shows.....but. Please share your experiences, thoughts, the pain and suffering, etc.

I've tried spreading the word and people also say that they will drop by and contribute. I have put a lot of work into this board and I have done everything I can. The board in all likelyhood will not be shut down, but I really get frustrated because it seems like I am wasting my time. I thought that I had a good idea and people would jump at the opportunity to tell about their shows, etc. Apparently, people just don't seem to be interested.
I have put up many topics to inspire people to participate and things that they can 'relate to'. I try to mention a number of things and hopefully people will follow up. Whenever somebody has an idea, I follow through for them. Maybe we just need to give it more time. I still think that this board can be great, but we are stuck on the number '8' for total membership.

This is a great board that I visit daily!!! I think one of the main reasons it is slow right now is because there are not as many doing shows in the summer, it will pick up as time goes on. Also.... so many are afraid to post, some feeling that what they say isn't important or a question they have is "dumb"... Let me tell all of you, all questions are important and the only dumb question is a not asked question, so sit down and let us know what is on your mind....... We are nice and if someone does not have the answer someone else will. Get a glass of iced tea, get a comfy chair and start typing!

Hi Twiggys. Welcome to the Forum. Looks like you are going to be a great contributer here. Nice to hear from somebody down 'south.' Hope you are making some money down there. A number of years ago (2003?) we made a long trip down there in our motor home to do a show at a mall near the border. It was terrible. I recall that the guy's name was 'Lee' and he had a bunch of mall shows down south? Any idea whom I am talking about? I don't see his shows in any publications anymore. Believe it or not, but I have saved all the craft show publications I have received over the past 16 years.....nice to look at them sometimes. Maybe I'll dig up some from 2003 with that guy's shows in there. Believe it or not, that was the week when Michael Jackson was arraigned in Santa Barbara(?) and we decided to drive by Neverland in Los Olivos. They thought he was going to 'appear' there and there were dozens of photographers there. We parked down the street and I walked around outside the place. My wife had to stay inside the motor home because she called in sick for work that time and did not want to be seen walking around in the newscasts. Matter of fact, one time I had a friend who was an avid "Raider's fan' and called in sick to see them play in San Diego and he was on TV. He was also jobless a couple weeks later - was fired (but got re-instated).
That's great that you have two separate businesses....food and craft. But like you said, a lot of competition. So, I would assume that your 'craft' is Christmas oriented? $250 a day is a bit high for me.

Well, emails were sent out to the members (135) of the old board yesterday and we had a very tiny response. Only one of these people signed up (but hasn't posted). The board goes on, okay. They are the ones missing out. I've spoken to a good number of events and they sound optimistic and I really get the impression that they are going to sign up contribute. I met some really great people who have a load of experiences to share and I would love to see them on the board.
Regardless, this board is fantastic and we always get into interesting 'conversations' and many times we all can come here and vent our frustrations or whatever. Many suggestions come up along with great ideas. We all have learned a lot.
Next week is 'No Lookie Lous" week. People will have to sign up in order to read the messages. Lots of people coming by but not signing up. Maybe when people sign up first, they will find it easier to contribute later.

I signed out and when I came back, I had to log on in order to access the forum. Actually, I forgot what my name was. I thought I had to sign in as DaveJS, but it was wrong and I had to retrieve my password and screen name. Wow.
Anyhow, I checked and saw that we have a couple guests over the past hour or so. I don't know why we are still showing 'guests' coming on. In order to read the board now, I thought that they had to be members, so therefore, those that access the board must now be members. Perhaps they were stopped at our first line of defense and it shows them (guests) as coming to the forum, but not registering. dunno.

Okay. I found my answer. I checked our most recent guests and MY 'IP' is showing up. I came up as a 'guest' and then was able to post after signing bac on. So, we have had four other people pop in AND not sign up. As soon as they come to the forum, they show up as a guest until logging in (or leaving).

Dave, you are most likely correct - once any of us arrive at the site, we are guests until logged in.
Just a thought:
Can you list the main topics rather than just presenting the login screen, not allowing guests to read the contents of the topics? Call it a carrot -- but I would be more likely to register if I can see some of what I am registering for...

Well a small input. My show schedule is late Sept to March or April as I sell Alpaca fiber products like socks, scarves, gloves and my wife makes hand made felted alpaca hats. The rest of the year when it is hot we do not go to shows as wool type products do not sell in hot weather! DUH!. I love getting input about how shows go from other people as I do not want to waist my time and money going to a looser' Losers: Cobb Ranch Xmas tree Farm in Fresno-people come to buy trees then go home Casa de Fruita: one bus of people stopped and if I were selling tacos it would have been great. Craft show in Turlock and Pleasenton-great with xmas decorations but not for me. Iris festaval Porterville lots of people, too spread out and ethnic crowd with no money. Manderine festival great for me but others not to good. Eggplant Festival-strange and rain-broke even. Chocolate Festival Oakhurst great for me

Cortland, Nice to see you posting..... I have done one of the bad shows you mention (Porterville) and I agree... It is not the show for me either. What shows are you doing the rest of the year?
