I used to do the mineral and gem show every year for about 4 years. It has been some time since I have been there. It is huge. Lots a people. We did it mostly for the wholesale hookups. I remember one year it rained and it knocked a huge tent over. The middle just fell in. Part of it used to be in this huge field with tents. I remember a friend of ours had stuff damaged in the whole mess. We stayed in the van and then in town a few nights. . Is the Gem and Mineral Show the first one in January? I think around the second week? I heard it wasn't a great money maker for people and the weather was decent. However, the weather can be bad around then. Things improve weatherwise around the 20th or so over there. I'm doing two shows next year... Sell-a-Rama and the Arts and Crafts show. BOOTH FEES. For the Sell-a-Rama, regular 14x24 spaces are around $240-260. I have a premium space (corner) so I have to pay around $350. Well worth it. For the A&C show, we are located around Row R and toward the street. I paid $375 for it and we can park our 29 foot motor home there, since the double space is 14x48. Very nice, except that the weather was bad the last couple days and sales were very poor for everybody because there were no other shows to draw people there and they sure as hell aren't coming out there for that one alone. You've got the RVers there, but they all bought stuff at the Sell-a-Rama.

The Sell-a-Rama is the best out of the three shows there. The other two shows are smaller and less people attend. I did the A&C after the Sell-a-Rama because I was already there and wanted to do at least two shows to make it worthwhile. The A&C show could be okay or it might be bad. Don't know. Based on the other shows going on, the economy and the gas prices. 10x20 canopy is fine. I don't know about the fire retardant tarps. I think basically all the canopies meet those regulations. I have never done a gem or mineral, etc., show in Tucson.. early February. You might do good there. Lots of shows, good weather (usually). I went there a couple times back in the 1990's and it was nice with lots of people. This is a major event for gem and mineral buyers as people come from all over the country to buy.

Sorry for not responding to this sooner. Somehow, I missed it. We must have had a big flurry of postings around then. Anyhow, I have an excellent space in the Sell-a-Rama but I spend the nights out in the BLM with our motor home. For the A&C show, we park it for 11 day in the space. My space size for the Sell-a-rama is 14x24 and big enough to fit two canopies back to back. For the A&C Show, our space is 14x48, enough for the motor home and two 10x10 canopies back-to-back. Sales for the A&C Show were very slow and we did not have any good selling days. Many hours go by with very few sales. It's very hard to get the same space for both shows. I am new to the A&C Show, so I have to pull down and set up in another space. It's a bit difficult, but we have several days between the shows. After we take everything down after the Sell-a-Rama, we drive over to Blythe..... get a good dinner over there and buy some groceries. When we get back later in the day (Monday), we park someplace in the lot and wait until Tuesday afternoon when the people who are in our space leave. A few month ago, I created a page on my website called "The Desert Rat' and it describes our life in Tyson Wells. Between that and my reviews, you will have a good idea what goes on over there. Really hoping that you stop by and see us there in Tyson Wells (space X-19) in January. The first 4-5 days are always the best selling because there are many shows in the area which draws people from all over. The snow birds are there camping from November until late February. There are three shows in Jan/Feb and I think that you should give Kim a call and he can let you know more than I can. I suggest that you call ASAP since spaces are filling and you'd have a better chance of getting in: Show Office Phone: (928) 927-6364. The Sell-a-Rama is the best of them The other shows are: Rock, Gem and Mineral Show Jan. 1 - 10, 2010, and Arts and Crafts Show Jan. 29 -Feb. 7, 2010. Check here to see more shows in Quartzsite. www.quartzsitebusinesschamber.com/calendar.html you'll need to contact them. I know absolutely nothing about events on 'the other side of the highway.' Good luck. If you are going to do anything, you need to do it very quickly. Time is of the essence right now.

HI! Most of the main people just come in for the big show and leave after. The end of the first show, the whole big show, and the beginning of the 3rd show are alright. Dust is a never ending battle. Worse, is when you have mist or dew and the dust turns to guck on EVEYTHING. I bought a hand held blower and blew off my stock daily! Vendors watering the sand every morning is funny, but necessary for your sanity. I didn't go to the 2010 show, but will be back in October for the 10-11 show. I will say that the show I did, it took me from Jan-Mar to make what I did in 18 days in 2008 at the Big tent. No aspersions on the show IT IS THE ECONOMY... Plus... 18 miles from California, high gas prices, Forclosed RV's, new rules for traveling Canadian citizens, and an early winter that fell on the northern states put a damper on things.
