Whiskey Flat Days February 12, 13, 14, & 15 2010. Kernville, California. Check ou the Kernville chamber of Commerce's website for vendor apps and an event schedule. The weather this year couldn't be better - 60 degrees and higher during the day, 34 at night. Great advertising on Bakerfield television, Bakersfield and Ridgecrest newspapers, and internet.

What stations in Bakersfield? I have not seen it. All I am seeing is the RV show this weekend at the Fairgrounds.

Welcome to our forum. Hope you will be a frequent contributor. Yah, looks like a super weather for this weekend there. Wish I was there, but I was hesitant to sign up because of potentially poor weather and other reasons. Best of luck. I've done the show 4-5 times in the past. Just got back from several weeks in hell over in Tyson Wells. What are some of the other shows you do? Ever do any of The Crystal Fair shows in the Bay area? Best of luck and let us know how you do there.

Susie lives in Bakersfield and is tuned in to the TV stations there and if she is asking about this, then I too, am wondering about the advertising. However, this event will have large crowds this weekend, I am certain. There are a number of shows where we really question their claims of advertising; especially one's in Cambria, Bass Lake Casa de Fruta, etc.

BREAKING NEWS FROM KERNVILLE.
Three security guards have been arrested in the theft of merchandise from 21 vendors at Whiskey Flats Days in Kernville. I don't have very many details on it. Let's hope we hear something from other vendor's there. Thousands of dollars in merchandise was stolen.

Susie I was told by one of my friend's who is selling there this weekend. They tried to get into his booth, but he had it secured pretty good and they couldn't get his back cover loose. He said that he could tell that they tried to get in.

Wow... went through all the local news stations and none of them has this story. I have a feeling this is one story that will not make the local news.... Glad they were not able to get into your friends booth. I bet there are some upset vendors there. Curious to see if the crowds were buying or looking......

Susie You will only hear the news on Starving Vendors! I don't think you will see any word of it in the media. Not really a 'newsworthy' story with them. But amongst the thousands of vendors in CA, the news will spread like wildfire. Hopefully they will have a triple hanging on Sunday.

Oh I am sure word will travel. I looked at the Kern County Sheriffs Department arrest records and nothing there yet either, of course they probably will not update it until Monday. I will make sure everyone that I know hears about it.. I bet Whiskey Flat Organizers are not wanting it to hit the news either. Sure hope someone puts it in the review on Craftmasters....

Oh I am sure that it'll be in Craftmaster's. But don't worry, a lot of people will find out on Starving Vendor's sooner or later. In the past two weeks, there have been over 600 people reading my review (2008) and comments on Whiskey Flats. I get 30-60 people each day reading that page alone. I put something about the robberies there and news will spread like wildfire. There have been a lot of people searching google for 'whiskey flats kernville 2010' or variations.

I sure hope that everyone hears about it!!!!!!! Was just thinking, this has to be the biggest theft at a craft show... Wonder what the guy with the cameras in Arizona would think about this?

For Your Information: I contacted one of our local television stations last night and asked them about this information (being nice of course). They did some checking, and the mountain reporter sent me a email this morning. Nothing had been told to the media (wonder why) but she did confirm the thefts. She was waiting for the Sheriffs Department to contact her about who it was that broke in (we already know who it is but she has to hear it from the Sheriffs Department) and said the story would be on the local news tonight at 6:00 p.m.. Thanks Dave for bringing it to everyones attention... my heart breaks for those vendors!

Thanks Dave for bringing it to everyones attention... my heart breaks for those vendors! Susie Susie Thank's Susie. That's wonderful. Hope they will have something on their website. Twenty one vendors, can you believe it. Wow. They must have walked around the show during the day and peeked into everybody's booths to pick out what they were going to sell. Anyhow, I am going to scrutinize these security guards or whatever at events that I do. When I did Monterey a couple year's ago (Custom House Plaza) there were a number of thefts (sunglasses, jewelry, etc.). That is in an area where you do not have any riff-raff wandering about in the wee-hours of the morning. Hmmmmmmm. I was at Clovis Days 4-5 years ago and a rash of vendor's booths (10?) were broken into. Several of them were in the A-section where I was located but they did not hit my booth. BTW (knock on wood) we secure our booth pretty good at night with grids all around the canopy and use around 12-15 long bungies from top to bottom. In other words, it will take awhile to get inside. Maybe 10 years ago in Cupertino, our booth and 5-6 others were broken into and we lost around $500 worth of jewelry. They left behind our more expensive ($30-100) pewter items. I think that there were break-ins there a couple years ago and perhaps 3-4 vendors were hit. Anyhow, if you value your merchandise and if it is small and easy for you to remove at night, please do so. Trust no one. When I left my stuff at show's I alway asked myself if I thought I'd get a good -night's sleep. If I felt like I would be tossing and turning, then I would take my merchandise home at night. However, as we are getting older, we are more prone to leaving our stuff in the canopy at night. Of course, in obvious situations, there is no way in hell I would leave my stuff overnight.

Ok..... leading story on 23 news. According to the Sheriffs Department, they had 10 - 12 reports of stolen merchandise, skateboards, fundge, cowboy hats, etc. They gave an estimate of the value being at $2000.00 total and say it was kids..... No mention of the security guards, etc. Makes me think the promoters of Whiskey Flat Days do not want the full story told. Of course no mention of catching who did it either but the promoters did say that with where the booths are they are sure it was kids........
