What do you consider a reasonable entry fee? I know there are many shows that I do not do because of the high fees. A good example being the Gilroy Garlic Festival. I also have a problem with a high fee plus a percentage on top of that. Seems like only the promoters make money........

reasonable booth fee for a 10x10 to me is $300 or under and no %,but it really depends on the event,i live about 20 miles from the Garlic festival location and i believe the fee is $600-700 for a 10x10 and in todays economy i don't think i will turn much of a profit if any?most shows in San francisco are $600-800 for a 10x10 and i have done some there but i never end up making much. as of now my confort zone is somewhere in the range of $300 since the economy is so bad.

Thanks for the reply. For me to do Gilroy it would be the space plus three or four nights in a RV park (I hear Casa De Fruita is 70 or so a night during this time) and fuel for the pick up. These things alone would be $1000.00 or more depending on the fuel and camping costs. I would love to do the show but I do not think I would make any money. I wonder how one of Mike Knapps shows would do at Casa De Fruita that weekend? I know it would cut down on the space fees if he had a show at the same time. Think it is something we should ask him to do?

Apparently a number of people did decent at the Garlic Festival. I would never pay that much though even though we can commute back and forth. We are commercial, so I wouldn't be able to get in.
Wow. Casa de Fruta is the closest RV Park? Nice 'stopover' for people and their bathroom issues, but every single thing is over priced, especially the RV Park. I don't think that having a show there at the same time as the GGF would have any effect on vendors. Maybe he might be the one getting fewer vendors. You would need a major established event within 100 miles offering spaces for $200 to sway the vendors away from the GGF and if they did lose vendors, they would not drop booth fees. Matter of fact, if they hear that many vendors showed a good profit, I am most certain that they will raise fees.
Sometimes these darn booth fees can be pretty frustrating.

I am slated to try to do 2 fairs, in MN and IA. this summer. Each show is consecutive, and will run me 1,050.00 each for a 10X10 booth. plus, insurance, gas, food, parking, camping, etc. I have a concern too. A person could go bankrupt with a couple bad venues in a row! I just did a Winter show in ND and it was 600.00 for 5 days for a funky sized space under the bleachers. Next year I should be given the corner 10X10 space and it will be 550.00. I've sometimes wondered if the only ones making money are the promoters too.
