Looking at a show ap and just saw something I have never seen before. It wants you to snd photos and list what you are selling - with prices, I am ok with that. Then it goes on to say: Penalties for non-compliance to agreement The applicant agrees to the following non-compliance to this agreement: 1. In the event the applicant sells unauthorized items (items not listed on page 2), a penalty in the amount equal to the initial concession fee shall be paid to the Wasco Festival Of Roses, Inc., by the applicant and will be asked to immediately refrain from selling the unauthorized items.
Then it goes on to say what they will do if you do not pay or stop selling the item.
Has anyone seen anything like this? As a crafter, I sometimes have a item that I make just before the show. How am I suppose to know this ahead of time? Anyway.... I am now going to pass on this show, since it sounds to me like they are going to be looking for items so they can double the fees..... Any comments?

Susie, looks to me like they're just trying to make it clear you don't purposely deceive them in the application process. (unfortunately there's a few here and there that play games like that with the promoters). I wouldn't worry much about it. If you have new items you plan on selling and they weren't included on the application, just make sure to be honest with 'em up front about it and get 'em cleared. I think you'll be fine...

Thanks, that wording really bothered me. This is a show that is falling apart as it is. It use to be a two day show, now it is one day and many vendors last year did not even make the space rent, so I know they are not returning. The one item I did see selling was the man who had a truck load of plants....

Obiously a scare tactic. Looks like they have had problems with it in the past. There are a good number of us (commercial, especially) that do sell a large variety of assorted products and we often take shortcuts by not listing every little item. You know, if you only have one or two of a specific item it really doesn't matter too much. The actual thought of being turned down for an event by a picky promoter because I listed one of my 'minor sellers' on the application frightens me. OH, WE ALREADY HAVE SOMEBODY SELLING THOSE, sorry. Apply earlier next year. It has happened, okay?
I don't think that the Wasco promoter's really have any intention of 'fining' people and I do not know the legitimacy of it. I think that people are scared enough when submitting their applications for that event that they will list every item..... this year, at least. However, I would never submit to a show that threatens me like that and of course, I would never submit to a show that requires vendors to undergo a 'police check.' I'll list every item, but do not threaten me as a vendor. I would feel very uncomfortable working with a promoter like that. You know, 'do this and I'll do that to you,' 'if you don't do this, I'll do that to you.'

Susie, there just trying to scare vendors. when was the last time you saw promoters go from booth to booth checking what you sell and comparing it to your application?I think i might have had that happen twice and i do 40 or so shows a year.

Mark.. never had it happen but this show is dying.... Last year it was 109 that day, lots of kids on bikes in the park, not many adults at all. Those that were there were headed for one thing or another, not the booths. I just do not understand why they are getting so picky on the ap when the vendor count is so low to begin with. I also heard one of the largest Rose farms has closed....... Also talked to some people that live in Wasco and they said they have not seen any advertising at all...... I am so sick of shows that do not advertise!!!

Sorry but I am all for this and my stuff is always changing with the seasons so I state that as well and tell them I will email updated pics. Just had the misfortune of signing up for a 3 month show were I took a 4 week break to go somewhere else. When I returned there were 3 other vendors that had tried to copy my stuff and started to sell it. Now I know it was not on their app since I was the only one. I complained big time. Even the lady in the booth across from me had the balls to try and copy a skirt I had and try to sell it. See was not even doing anything that was even close to that when I was there. Bad people spoil it for all of us.

I wish all shows would do this. It also prevents the also rans from, stealing your Ideas and under cutting you. I have been a show vendor for over 30 years, back in the day the show promotors, limited the duplication of products and every one made money. These days most show promotors are just real estate dealers, and judge the success of the show by how much vendor money they put in their pockets, not by how much you make or how many attend.
