Susie and Mark have come up with suggestions on blocking off certain areas of our forum or allowing 'non-members' to view only certain parts.
I have found a way to do it, but I have to go through each and every board here in order to do it and check off a certain box in each. We will allow the 'visitors' to view certain areas very shortly and I think that will help. Going to happen!!

There are membership levels in this forum. God (believe it or not) Senior Member Full Member Junior Member New Member I am trying to find out how many posts are required for each level. If anybody finds out, let me know. Here is a link to pro-boards support. support.proboards.com/index.cgi We really could have certain boards which allow Full Member or higher and that could encourage Junios and Newbies to post more often. Need some boards that sound really juicy and full of information. To begin with I will separate parts of this board to be accessible to 'guests' without having to log-in. There will be a few areas. 'Welcome' will be one of them. I don't know if I have the time to do this right away, but it will happen shortly.

As of right now, everybody can view parts of our forum. However, there are now areas that are blocked off to the 'guests' such as 'Anything about events.' They have to be logged in to read our good stuff. They can still stop by the Bar and Grill and see what we are chit-chatting about, but I might block that off also. Your thoughts on blocking any other areas?
There may or may not be certain threads block off according to levels of membership. All I can say people, start posting so you can at least get up to the 100 post level and have everything in this forum available to you. Post post post. Reply to threads as much as you can because you access could be limited. Maybe October 1? I understand that there are a few members here that do not post as frequently as the top 3-4, but their messages are of relavant importance and I will take that into consideration. Meanwhile, keep contributing, okay?

Looks like it's pre-determined. I'll check it out. Too hard to find any specific topic in their help forum. Need time to look at it.

Okay, I found it. Should have spotted it before, but the issue never arrived. I just changed a few things but want to hear suggestions as to what membership levels should be named:
#of posts 0 Newbie one star 25 Junior Member two green stars 50 Full Member three blue stars 250 Senior Member four red stars 500 Top Dog (it was called God, but I don't think that was proper) 5 yellow stars
Give me suggestions on what the post levels should be along with the names for each one. Something to do with the shows. Need to ponder for awhile. So, give me ideas people.

If you open boards/categories/threads up according to number of posts, you will have people writing single word postings like - bump, duh, agree, etc just to get post count up (not that I think that this will occur here amongst our fine members...).
In my opinion, while having title levels for # of posts is OK, access restrictions, except for maybe a unique situation, should be simply guest or member.
People are encouraged to post by content and how much fun they think others are having by participating.
Bottom line -- make the forum all it can be and keep your fingers crossed...

Paula. I like your names, suggestions. Will make all required post counts reasonable, but challenging for the highest 2.
There shall be no bumping. I will work on a set of guidelines, which will frown upon bumping and nonsense posts. I really can't see anybody doing that to achieve upgraded status unless there is really something valuable for them to see or read.
I will not be doing any 'blocking' of boards according to member status for quite awhile, if that ever does occur. We have to see how this board develops and observe the content and then decide what should be highly privileged information for our prized members. I think that sounds about right. As for now, I'll work on the post required for member status along with appropriate names. I like Paula's..... but let's see what everybody else thinks. Maybe I might do something tonight if I get a chance.

Well, they were okay for starters and they seem halfway decent. However, let's come up with some unique AND eye-catching and let's have some prestige associated with some levels.

Your idea sounds pretty good. Come up with names for the 100 and 25 post levels.

half-starved could be emaciated undernourished could be malnourished
If you like this theme, I'm sure others could suggest some other worthy adjectives.
ravenous, voracious, devouring, gluttonous, insatiable, underfed are a few more that could be used.
