I have seen a number of really good food vendors at shows over the years and I have seen some real doozies. I'd like to hear from some of them and the difficulties they have in selling at festivals. Permits? Inspections? Electrical hookups?

Food vending is a tough way to go these days for several reasons, unless you find that gold mine that doesn't have one food joint for every 100 attendees. 1. regulations very, not only from state to state but from county to county. In the old days, all food booths were specialties, the hot dog guy sold hot dogs, the funnel cake guy sold funnel cakes etc, and with that system every one made a little money. In the last couple of years on the road, we had a $180,000 Outerbacher funnel cake stand , a $40.000 lemonade/hot dog trailer, and other things, but the promoters begin to let any one and every one in the show who could pay the fee, and allowed them to sell any food they wanted, soon every one was selling funnel cakes, hot dogs and lemonade, it ruined the business, it gets hard to make $6000 a month payments on a funnel cake store when every one with an easy up can sell em. Got out of the food business and went back to strait sales. less hassle, less work, and more profit. Still got a hot dog cart and a fry joint setting in my front yard, growing, moss. But my next book is "Americas favorite Fair foods" so maybe Ill get some of that money back. lol
