We are here, canopy is set up, truck is unloaded and you remember that song "It never rains in Southern California?" Well, they did not know what they were talking about! It is raining and has been off and on all afternoon. Met some of our fellow vendors and they are super nice people. Kids went into the store and the fudge there is wonderful!!! Will update this tomorrow night....... hopefully with good news. If it rains all day, I will at least be able to tell you about all the different varieties of fudge.... who can have a bad day with all that chocolate available? So far I have had chocolate, chocolate - peanut better and caramel- vanilla.... Can you tell my boys love me? Oh and I had haystacks...... This is going to be a very good weekend!

Just checked the map. Bates Nut Farm is in Valley Center, just north east of Escondido?
Can't believe that it's raining. Oh gosh. We'll have nice sunny 70-degree weather in the tire-kicking, tatoo-wearing capital of California. I recall last year over this same weekend and we had bad weather all over Northern California. We were in Richmond (murder capital of Kalifornia) and we had showers off and on. I recall that Morro Bay also had a bit of rain.
Hope you do well over there. I dare not venture that far south.
Just checked out the area on Google Street View. Isn't it kind of remotely located. Seems to be a little ways off Woods Valley Road a bit? I see a hill on one side, so it must be on the flatland side of the 'highway'. Do you get a lot of traffic out that way?

Does not seem to be much traffic at all but you should see the houses in the area... not big, HUGE! The farm is really a nice set up and from talking to the other vendors, it is the place to be...... roads were real "country roads" on the way in. The vendor next to me is from Las Vegas so the show must have something to offer, or at least I hope it does. Seems to be very organized and the other vendors seem friendly and helpful.. many were looking at my "ceiling", guess we will see tomorrow how well it works to keep the rain out. Weather says 20% chance of rain tonight and cloudy tomorrow..... we shall see. Funny, I overheard a crafter talking on her cell phone and saying it is not going to rain... blah blah blah.. within 10 minutes we were in the middle of a down pour. All of our stuff is in plastic bins, sitting on the tables so we should be fine. As I said... there is always that chocolate fudge inside the store if it gets too bad. If the show is as good as the other vendors say... I will do it two times next month... the good thing is it caters to the "tourist" so it will always be a different group of people. Stay tuned for Part 2 of "It Never Rains In Southern California".......
Day 1 is over: All I can say is WOW! Wonderful weather, great vendors, good customers and tons of people! Packed all day long which was nice... funny the other vendors were saying this was the smallest amount of people they had ever seen there... of course they was a big air show going on in San Diego also, which I am sure kept some people away. Wonderful sales and had customers asking me to please come back again... one had already spent almost $200.00! Talked to many customers and they drive from all over Southern Ca to come to this.... Will post more after we finish today! Hope all of you are having great shows!
It is done and we are home! Great show, wonderful vendors around us and customers that were so nice and had money to spend!!! It is a show that I would do again in a heartbeat, even though it is 4 hours away from us...... They had three tour buses come in today and at times the crowd was shoulder to shoulder. Had many customers ask if we would be back, which was nice. I talked to the promoter about Thanksgiving weekend and she is going to see if they can find me a space, I guess it sells out fast and early. The farm is in the middle of nowhere but the Southern California people do drive there and shop. On the bad side...... we got a hotel (LaQuinta) in Vista... this morning we left our boys (16 and 18) in the room asleep while we went to open the booth. Called the desk and got the ok for a 1 o'clock check out.. Hubby went back about 11 and he calls me, when he got there, there was police everywhere and they had two BIG guys handcuffed outside one of the rooms.... the room 2 down from ours! Next time we will take the travel trailer!!!!! Susie

Have you been back since this post? Sounded like you have a good time. Let me know how was the crowd?
