I was wondering if anybody out there is doing the Chandler Ostrich Festival. Beautiful weather for it this weekend. I was hoping the setup would be improved with the new promoter's. Previously the people would enter and go through the food area and on to the carnival not bothering to stop off to see the vendor's on the right hand side. Since this show is 'not about the Brown's' anymore the vendor booths might be more accessible. Brown Amusement's (carnival) was in charge of the festival for several year's and had the vendors placed off to the side, away from their carnival rides.

I was wondering how the Chandler Ostrich Festival went; especially with the new promoter's. Haven't heard anything from vendor's yet, but that will take awhile until I talk to people at the shows. I did a Yelp search on it and saw a number of comments. Mostly people complaining about the entrance fee and not being able to 'see' the Demolition Derby. No seating. I am sure that people weren't spending $$$ there. www.yelp.com/topic/phoenix-chandler-ostrich-festival

yes, i am refering to Tempe Art Festival, and i think you will go as you are in arizona. i am in mesa selling so i cannot go to check it out. Are you referring to the Tempe Art Festival? Have several friends doing it this weekend. Yesterday's sales were excellent. Weather is perfect today and tomorrow. It will be a good show. It always is IF the weather is good :-) Purse Stuff - Paula

Where are you selling in Mesa? i am selling lampwork glass beads, ceramic glass beads, dicholic glass beads, bracelets, earring, necklace, beads and findings and components for jewelry making in mesa market place. it is a swap meet style. i do not have to take down my display and shade but i do bring my jewelries and beads home everynight. this save me 2 - 3 hours daily by not taking the display and ez up down. because of the tourist and snowbird, i am doing ok. but the winter snowbirds and visitors are 80% gone now. so i have to find another place i can sell summer. i have been reading almost of your postings in this forum and i do aware the market is very slow. for me, the local mesa, or phoenix or near by resident do not buy much though they like my beads and jewelries. they only buy a few dollars, and i will not be able to make a living with only the local or near by resident alone. in my mesa market, there are 4 vendors selling similar stuff like me, but since there are a lot of people coming to the market everyday, so there are some business for everyone. though some are with less business and some are more business depend how they capture the like and dislike of the snowbird. to me, base on what i have heard, read, look like the show business will have a difficult time to make business this year. good luck to your shows!

This market (Mesa) is open Fri-Sun? I guess it should be warming up pretty soon. I guess it would be nice to spend the month of March there if there were other places to sell during the week. How much do they charge? Since you are from CA, where are you staying, might I ask. Looks great if you are local (<50 miles) but spending months out there, I just know about that. I'm really not too crazy about going away for more than a day or two after the things that happened to me. Prescott & Sedona (>125 miles from Mesa) are beautiful areas and they have shows throughout the year, but I don't think they have any swap meets or anything close to that. Did you do anything like the Ostrich Festival (Chandler) or the 4th Avenue Street Fair (Tucson)?
I really don't think that I'll be doing any more shows in Arizona anymore. Can't believe I used to travel over 800 miles to Tucson just for a weekend show. Crazy or what!!!

Can't believe I used to travel over 800 miles to Tucson just for a weekend show. Crazy or what!!! i am from los angeles, i try 6 months selling in dallas in all mondays trade days and then i try the quartzsite. then i find a space in mesa market place. they open Fri, Sat, and Sun each week during winter months, and summer months, they open Sat and Sun. i have a trailer, and i park in a trailer park. but i do not have much choice as i am not 55 yet and my trailer is too old, some trailer do not take my trailer. so, i have limited choice and i spend a few days finding one which is reasonable in price. the trailer park i stay in monthly rent is $290 plus electric and free wi fi and no other facilities. i have limited resource and my presentation skill is not up to show standard yet. but i sell 2 - 3 days in yuma in farmer market and the yuma market place which is similar to mesa. they open Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun. so, if i am willing to do, i am doing 6 days a week. the rent is only $20 a day or $30 a day, and i share a motel with another vendor so the expense is ok. i do not like to sleep in the car. i am a single lady and i have a small car. it is not comfortable sleep in a small car. eventhough i have a van, i am not going to sleep in a car. if the money made is not worth spending to pay for the motel, then i do not go no more after a few try and the sales are not good if the weather is good. i can afford loosing $20 or $30 a day but i am not ready to loose $150 - $200 a day yet. i am still too green in show. i am practising my selling techique and my presentation skills with this little shows. i have a friend done a show is Sedona, it is arts & crafts show in the month of Jan and he did good. there is no swap meet in Sedona. i think Prescott has a new indoor swap meet but i do not know if they have a lot of tourist go there or not. personally i do not like totally enclosed indoor Swap meet. i am research other area if they has similar market like yuma and mesa. i heard Denver has similar one. i am not looking for it. i heard from another vendor the 4th Ave Tuscon is good show. but i am working 5 - 6 days in the months of Feb and Mar in Yuma and Mesa, so i cannot go to any shows but to read information.

Crazy or what!!! the mesa market charge $308.XX for 4 weeks and if you want to sell there daily you can. i think the rent is about $30 a day. it is a space that give you 10X30 and you must park your truck or car in your space no exception. so, you can estimate that the space is about 10X20. i like to have my car park at the back. i do not have to unloading everything i have in my car. i unload to show. if someone want to buy something that i do not even display, i can go to my car to get it. it is more convenience that way. but for daily vendors, you have to bring everything home everyday. but for us monthly vendor, we can leave our stuff there if you feel save.

Excellent post (suktexas). I wish you the best of luck out there. At least you have good weather out there AND a roof over your head. I know a lot of people who sleep in their car's and that is very rough on the body.
I haven't done a show in two months because of the weather and I wanted to take a break and rest up. Starting this weekend and it's supposed to rain. I truly wish I could be out there in Arizona in my motor home. Wow. Could do Mesa over the weekend's and stop by the baseball parks during the week and watch spring training.
Hope you find some more good events out there. Maybe try some RV parks during the week? I heard that in Yuma, the promoter is trying to get people to actually 'purchase' their spaces for something like $10,000. Way too much money for that. You actually own the space, but if the show closes, you lose the money. Anyhow, I could never pay that kind of money to sell anyplace. Not recommended for anybody. Best of luck.

Just to give you a heads up. RV parks are about done for the season. Latest numbers are that approx 80% of winter visitors are either gone or will be gone by Easter. Purse Stuff - Paula So much for that idea. Anyways, $945 for a space? A free massage? I'll tell ya what; knock off the massage and just charge $350. For that price, they should give free meals, motel stay, etc.
