Hi People. If you are looking for a show in July, please post the dates and the area where you are looking for. As we all know, Craftmaster, FNO, etc., do not list each and every show around. Sometimes, we all come up with ones that are pretty decent. List the dates that you are interested in and perhaps somebody can help you out.

I have no shows booked in July at all and only one in August (1st and 2nd in Lone Pine). I would prefer a two day show (too much of a hassle to set up for one day) and would like to stay within 200 miles of Bakersfield. Any ideas?

July and August are tough months for shows and that's why I head up north for a month. Other shows I have done during those months are within 60 miles of the Bay Area and probably 300 plus miles for you.
I've done Brentwood Cornfest and it gets too hot out there for me and people don't really buy. Long carnival hours and there's the city license fee AND electrical, etc. I believe that Morro Bay has a one-day show the first weekend of August, but don't know if you would go there for just one-day. When times were better, I have traveled over 200 miles to shows there and Los Osos, but no more of that for me.
I've been doing the Zucchini Festival in Hayward for many years and that one has been going downhill and is very, very close to rock bottom. Lost 100 vendors last year. Never travel far for this one!!! Not worth it. Beer drinking, music listening crowd. Entertainment is not that great...salsa, etc.
I've done a Barrio Fiesta (Filipino in Stockton) the second week of August and I do not recommend that one. Kids are untamed and too rowdy. On the third weekend of August I have done the Chinatown Streetfair in Oakland and that's no good, They give away too much free stuff and that's how they get their 100,000 crowd count. Socks, one dollah, free oranges... no more of that for me.
So, I have given you some shows to stay away from. I really don't see any very good shows around during that part of the summer. I've looked through Craftmaster and other places and it's slim pickings. I'll keep my ears open though and see if anybody is doing anything interesting.

Anybody have any info on Cayucas Peddlers Fair on July 4th weekend,Lookinf for something in cool area For July and August, got to get out of town during those months. (Visalia) I did Cayucos many year's ago and I did fair. The Central Coast is really nice from Cambria down to Pismo. I heard that this event was a bit slow last year and resembled a typical flea market. However, you never know how you will do in ANY particular event until you do it yourself.

Anyone know about the VFW show in Cambria July 17 & 18? I talked to a vendor that did the show last year and they sell higher-priced $50-$125 gemstone jewelry and high-end rock/gem cabochon jewelry and they DID NOT DO WELL!
I sell mostly under $50 hand-made jewelry and not sure whether to go to this show or not. Price is $100 for 10x10 for 2 days.
Any and all feedback welcome, thanks!

I really haven't heard anything about this show but keep in mind that this location is worn out and I don't think anybody is getting really terrific sales. Definitely not a money cow. Sales come from tourists and locals. Tourism has been down quite a bit around there because of the economy. As for the locals, I think that they are worn out from all the shows there. Looks like the booth fee ($100) is reasonable and not bad if you can keep your expenses down. However, when you pay $100, for a 2-day weekend event, you shouldn't get your expectations very high.

Thanks for the feedback, Dave. Yes, and I would also have to find an inexpensive place to stay for 2 nights on top of the $100. I'll definitely have to think about this one.
I keep hearing people say they make more money on the coast, but I don't know where that magical "coast" area is! I missed the Los Gatos show in March because of their early deadline, and will try to do that one next year if I'm still doing this by then. If the economy doesn't improve I guess I'll be headed for yet another some sort of career change (not easy at my age).

I posted this in the 09 4th of July thread... not sure if it's helpful to anyone. I've done the Mt. Shasta show the past 2 yrs... first year I did great. The location is awesome, town very cute w/ nice folks, great camping near by. Last year was terrible for me though. I was actually the least busy on the 4th, which was weird. There were just too many decent import clothing booths this time I guess. Often I can still do well, but I think people were really broke last year. Just FYI - We have a big 1 day festival here in Arcata, which is decent. But, the new layout stinks IMO and they have imports all over the place, which doesn't work for me. It's a little spendy, but lots of tourists and the locals love to come out and they do buy. There's a cheaper one in Eureka, but people really don't care about buying quality goods (in my experience anyway)... just partying and hanging out. Well if you have less expensive stuff, you might do better than I did. I know it's far for some of you, but a nice cool get away perhaps. This year I'm trying for an art & wine thing in Eugene. It's 3 days... hard to find handmade only shows for the 4th. I heard about this one from some customers who thought I'd do well in that area. We shall see!
