Wanted to vent a minute......
I was approached by a couple way back in March... to do a 1 day outdoor show in their grape vineyard. So I said I would try. I didn't know if I would have any major fairs to do instead and a 3-4 hour event sounded like lots of work. They boasted that they had lots of room and this was a growing event with much advertising.
I was found ~again~ at the last fair I did, and asked again if I would please attend their venue. (The cost was $40.00 for the day... Their "free event tickets" they offered as part of the package were of no use to me, as I wouldn't be able to utilize it being the only one to run the stand..)... But it seemed that they were really impressed with the unique stuff I had to offer and could bring to their small venue.
Then they sent me an email asking if I would go. I wrote them back and said that I would really try, but that since I didn't have any other adult help, (husband and oldest son had to work) I would have to shut my retail store down for the day, and bring the kids with me, and use my rv's awning to set up under. Being that I had my RV the kids would be inside there, play video games Nap if needed or watch TV and be no problem. The 2 older ones could actually help me with set up and take down..... I was willing to make the stretch to TRY it...
You would think that it wouldn't be any real issue right? They have pursued me with interest for 5 solid months.
Well all the sudden they balk that they are "crowded and don't know if they can fit an "RV" in there". (It's a toy hauler. The stock tables and grid wall gets placed in the rear 10 feet anyhow. Should have been looked same as if I had to bring the stock in my small trailer with my Blazer!!!) They write back the next day and say that they measured and they could "Squeeze" me in but I would have to come in really early and be put WAY IN THE BACK.
And Oh... By the way.... The cost for your space NOW will be $100.00...... Plus electric..... if I needed it.
So... I didn't bother... Why would I pay between $25.00 to $33.00 AN HOUR (plus my fuel costs ) to be stuck in a far corner subjected to the weather for a venue they are still trying to build? Do you know what kind of money I would have to bring in... JUST to break even??? Maybe in other economic times but not these days.
Yup... Promoters can be odd sometimes! (shrug!!!)
