It's back to Pacifica on Saturday for the Alma Heights Christian School Flea Market. Wasn't too good last year. This is what happened to me last year. I've had a whole %$&*(%ing year's worth of falling canopies.

One day only. Really nice weather here but it can get quite treacherous here a couple miles from the ocean. It can be foggy, rainy, misty, windy, cold, etc. None of those. Beautiful 70-degree temps all day and a couple breezes. The crowds were okay but I've heard that this was a pretty good flea market just a few years ago, but the economy..... well, you know. A lot of closet cleaners since this is more, or less a communty event; a fund raiser for this private school. These people are very nice and we enjoyed doing it. No riff raff and mostly decent families attending. Booth fees were only $35 and my sales were satisfactory, for what it was. Will be returning. There are no real cash cows on the circuit this week. Mark is so right about Rio Vista. I am sure that food sells very well out there and if you are selling kid's stuff, you've got it made. However, for that particular show, if you are selling jewelry, clothing, bags, A&C, then you may well as continue on down the road. Gosh, you really have to take a gamble on many of these events. Like this Flea Market, you get a good return on your investment, but you are not going to make a lot of money. I try not to do many other flea markets (DeAnza, Chabot, Ohlone, Concord, Ashby, etc.) and just use them for fillers 2-4 times during the year or I do them during times of the year when poor weather is anticipated and I don't want to put much money at risk. Also, you can read my story on Alma Heights. www.starvingvendors.com/Events_Alma_Heights_CA_Flea_Market_2010.html

Thanks, Mark and Dave. We were right next to the Orinda Community Center, where those lousy shows have been held. We had a pretty good turn out, and I had one of the people who runs the Library say she wants to purchase a necklace and earring set from me, which was nice. The 2-D art was on the walls, the 3-D stuff was behind locked glass doors, in cabinets, so I can sell that set to her when we take it all down in Nov. 1st. It didn't cost our gallery anything to have our show there, so it may be good advertising for us, guess time will tell. Laura

Hi Mark. How did you find it? $125 is a lot for that..... one day. Uh uh uh. I don't have a show for that weekend, but I am not going east of the Caldecott. What happens on that side of the Caldecott, can stay there!!! Wonder how many vendors they'll get for that one. 3? 5? 52? They must have 'heard' us talking about it and thought we all were interested in doing it. That's on Saturday. Library day? Soccer day? Jogging day? The app says that this is the 34th annual. In 2008 that was the 33rd, so they skipped last year. It was a good show when the community came out and supported it AND it was two days. This one day stuff just doesn't cut it. BTW. I just googled 'Orinda Holiday Bazaar' and came up with something very interesting in the top spot. Try it - you will like it. LMAO.

Did the San Carlos Art & Wine Fest. Made some fair dough, but slower than last year. Also last weekend, I did the Los Altos Fall Fest. Made a little profit on Sat., but did not go back on Sunday. Too slow. Looks like things are getting slower sooner this year in October. I'm not doing the Danville Fest this year (its at the end of the month), because last year I only made a fair amount and too many seniors. Also, too many seniors and not enough families and couples in San Carlos and Los Altos. I love seniors, but unfortunately they don't spend on much and are not my client base.
