Hi people. How many of you vendors out there have ever been subjected to some type of a 'police check' whereby you have to pay a certain amount and provide the promoter with your driver's license number and social security number for them to run a police check or tracer on you?
I had one two years ago for the Vacaville Harvest Days. We all were forced to pay $25 to them so they could run a police check on us. Maybe it's one of their ways to make extra money, I don't know, but I just think that a promoter has crossed the line when they do that to you. We are not criminals and I can't see actually paying somebody $25 for them to run the check on you. Something wrong here.
Tell me, has this ever happened to you? BTW that show sucked. Many things wrong with it and if you are looking for an October show, stay away. They just run over to the Pumpkin Patch, grab their pumpkin and get the hell out. They have no money. Over the year's I have done 4 events in Vacaville and they have all been bad. Can not possibly make any money there.
Anyways, I talked to a lawyer about these 'police checks' and said that they are allowed to do it and can do pretty much what they want to. However, you (we) are the one's that have to decide whether or not to participate in the event. I am hoping that all vendors will refuse to participate in any event that requires this. I have seen several other events requiring this and I have not even thought about participating.
