Didn't know where to put this one. Maybe a new thread about "things we've experienced at a show" would be good!
So, when we were finishing the State fair we were asked to do a 3 day tractor and threshing show in SD. We had nothing else planned, so we agreed to go.
The show itself was good, the patrons were in a good mood and the weather was nice all weekend. (No complaints there).
Anyhow...
There was a vendor giving free horse and wagon rides on his Haflingers. My daughter and I had gone several times and she really enjoyed it. Being this was her 4th birthday, we wanted it to be special. Well, the driver was going to make a U turn and something (we don't know WHAT) spooked the horses and they took off. The driver couldn't get them under control and they turned a corner and ran in behind a parked rv. The wagon (thankfully) hit the corner of it and broke the team loose, threw the patrons foward, me out of the wagon and my daughter bounced off the (padded) back seat and skidded her chin on the floor. The 71 year old driver broke a 2X6 with his shins as he was pulled overboard. About 20 feet later I would have been tossed out on top of old rusted farm equipment and the horses would have been tangled in the barbed wire. Possibly toppling over the wagon too. My daughter and I are pretty banged up, as was the rest of the riders. I have a goose egg down my head, and a bruised knee and arm, and my daughter has a skinned chin but no one suffered from broken bones, and was "minimal damage", all considering. Today we're pretty sore, but can't help but think to myself "What a Day!!!"
This will be a weekend that we'll never forget! Don't need any more like this one, that's for sure!!!!
