Have any of you ever had a show cancelled after you had paid the fees. Or have you ever gotten to an event and there was nothing there?

I had paid my booth space for a show in Monterey a couple years ago and I found out a couple week's before the event that it was cancelled and had a difficult time getting my money back on it. I had made a couple calls to him and he was taking his time sending it out. I made a last call to him and said that I was going to take action against him and he called me back and was very nasty on the phone. He was going nuts. This was about 3-4 weeks after I found out that the event was cancelled and had requested a refund. Other vendors also had problems with him.
This may have been one of those instances where the promoter advertises a show and collects the money and waits to see if their are enough vendors OR this could be a case where he was going to have a show but didn't check local regulations. Supposedly in Monterey they only allow non-profit groups to hold events. Dunno. Fortunately, I was able to find another event and was able to do that one instead. BTW it was bad and I didn't make very much money.

I got noticed that the Candy Festival in Fairfield had been moved to May. Not sure why. Seems you would want one in Oct not May.

I am doing the Tomato Festival in a few weeks from the same person. I think it is a good show but I will know. It is the city I think and they do the candy festival as well.

Last October I had paid for a local show ($160.00). Five days before the show all the money was returned to the crafters. They said they had not received enough fees to pay for the show so they cancelled it. I will never do a show with this group again. Five days is a little late for a person to find another show!

I was accepted for a show in the Central Valley of Ca. for last July, and it was cancelled a few weeks before it was to happen. My check was returned along with a form letter. I was SO glad it was cancelled, as it was over a hundred degrees that weekend and it would have been miserable to be there. They sent me an application for this July and I decided to not even apply.
