I talked to a guy who had a booth in Tillamook and he said that somebody broke into his booth on Friday night/Saturday morning. They sliced through the back of his canopy and emptied one of his tables. Not really expensive stuff.
On Saturday afternoon, I caught a 15 (approx age) year old trying to steal from us at the same fair in Tillamook.
Wife was in the back talking to customers. I was standing outside our canopy on the far left hand side (watching the Red Sox-Yankees on the HD TV next door). There were a few teenagers standing about 3 feet inside our canopy looking at our belly-dancer skirts. One of the girls had one in her hand. I watched her glance over to my wife in the back and then turn away. I thought she was going to buy it. However, she stepped out and began walking away from our canopy. She began walking quickly and when she was about 8-10 feet away. I spoke out to her. "Hey did you pay for that?" as I thought that maybe she had paid before. She turned around. "No." I then asked "Where are you going with that?" She then told me that she wanted to call her mom. I looked at her. "No, Oh no you weren't. You were stealing this and we are going to security about this and have you removed from the fair." "But I wasn't stealing it. I was going to call my mom." I then took the two ladies over to the gate and told security about what happened. One of her friends comes over and starts telling us that 'I know her, she has never stolen a thing.' I looked at the guy. "Sorry, but she was stealing from me and I caught her." One of the sherrif's then came over and asked her if she had enough money to pay for it. She pulled out seven dollars. That's all she had, so obviously she had no intention of buying it. She kept arguing that she wasn't stealing it, but she was caught. The sherrif asked me if I wanted to press charges and I told him 'no'. I just would like her removed from the fair and not come back and steal from my fellow vendors. End of that.
I wish I would have handled it just a bit differently by telling the sherriff that since she said she was going to call her mom, why don't we just have her do that and have her mother come down. and see what her daughter is doing here. Well, too late. You know, you are never prepared for things like this. I just wanted to get back to my booth (so nobody else would steal) and get her out of the fairgrounds
