Saturday update for the Charleston Seafood Festival.
There are about 80 vendors, of which 24 are food and half a dozen are kids fun and frivolity. Only a couple of non-profit.
I landed amongst the food vendors because of my electricity requirement and the lack of electricity in most areas.
I had Miguel's Mexican on one side and cotton candy on the other side. I was directly across from the funnel cake vendor, with an Italian Sausage booth next to them.
The stage was 3 booths away but the music was not loud and it was good chair wiggling music for most of the afternoon.
The kids were well-behaved and didn't provide any issues other than not being aware of where their ice cream was dripping. I don't think that that is preventable.
The promoter is the Charleston Fire Department and they could be seen throughout the day checking that all was good.
The day started with a pancake breakfast provided by the Fire Department and it was early enough for the vendors to enjoy a bite. Good stuff.
Typical food booths (no philly cheesesteak though, Dave - according to my wife who did all of the reconnaisance work) with the addition of booths for fried oysters, calamari and shark sandwiches. I tried the shark sandwich and found it to be pretty good but did leave a bit of an aftertaste. My wife had a barbecue beef from Pete's Barbecue (no relation...). She only ate half (normal) but it was good. I never object when she only eats half... ;D
One of the vendors came for a visit and after I gave her a vendor discount for her purchase, she returned a little later with a couple of shrimp cocktails. It was excellent! And she sent a couple more vendors our way, who also made purchases.
The wind was doing its thing during the afternoon. Stronger than it has been, recently, but not over the top as it was for July Jubilee and Winchester Bay OceanFest.
Sales were good. I was going pretty much non-stop until about 4pm when it slowed down and remained fairly slow for the last two hours. It was actually nice to catch a breather and complete the unfinished meals...
Prior to opening, folks were already milling around and sales interrupted my pancake breakfast... I took this picture before opening about 20 feet from my booth (which was as far as I got from the booth...).
And one more pic: Hooked On Names ------- Note my file cabinet weight under the Stimulus Wheel.
It was a gorgeous day, a little windy, but few clouds (if any) and a very nice day on the coast.
