Ok..... I do not know if this would be possible or not, but here goes.
Can the threads that are "for members only" be shown with something saying "you must be a member to access this area"?
With the boards not showing they are not going to know what they are missing. I know some of the boards I read are set like that.
Just a thought.........

They really do not know what they are missing. So what do I do, turn it on and off? Put a message one week telling them that they will not be abe to read such and such the following week? I really don't have much of an alternative. We are trying very hard to get people to sign up AND then get them to post AND if they don't post frequently, certain areas will be blocked off to them. No matter what I do, it's not the perfect scenario. Simple as that. |

You are doing a wonderful job and I was not complaining at all. I just did not know if this board had the capacity to show the thread just be locked to non members.

I never took it as a complaint. I know that you are merely making suggestions, but I am trying to explain that trying to maneuver this member/non member and member rankings thing around is quite difficult. I have things in mind of what I want to accomplish, but the settings that I have to use just don't cooperate. I wish that we could stick 'patches' in the software that would do what we want it to do, but that is impossible. I want to deny the newer members (and guests) a certain number of 'privileges' in order to encourage them to post (sensibly). A member's higher status should reap rewards and I am working on that in order to bring in new members and to have these people post. All this stuff is new to me. It's a challenge and it's a lot of fun AND I really enjoy reading eveybody's posts. Get's pretty interesting at times and I can only imagine what it's going to be like when we reach 100 members or more. |
