I think that you meant December. It could be a decent event for a number of vendors, but the clientele that frequent this event are known to be small spenters and even more so this year. If you could get a decent booth fee, then it might not be too bad. However, you would likely have to motel it or sleep in your vehicle. We did it several years ago and it wasn't that great for us. Don't do it anymore because Gross Income - (booth fees + other fees + gas expenses + motel fees + cost of merchandise) = <0 Lots of people and the weather is usually warm. I don't think that people in Indio have much money to spend. the motel is the real killer for me. Too far to take my RV. However, if you live within perhaps 150 miles and you bring your RV/trailer and can get a cheaper A&C rate, then I might recommend it. For me, I'd have to gross $1,000 before showing a profit, so definitely not worth it. You would get a lot of business there, but you definitely have to raise your price. but I think that your expenses will be too high.

I have not done that one but there is also a show in Norco that weekend, Hillside Farms. Have you heard of it? A friend is doing the show Thanksgiving weekend this year since she talked to a few people that say it is the place to be. There is a show there Thanksgiving weekend, then the following weekend. From what I understand all of the money from the space rent goes to charity. Here is a link to the show since all Craftmaster has is a telephone number: hillsidefarm.agentz.com/2000_images/index.shtmlHas anyone ever heard of this one?

Yes, sorry, I meant Dec 5th & 6th! Thanks very much for the responses. I might try and share a space with someone and possibly drive down there with them, sharing gas and maybe lodging.

Caricatureartist, Last night we were sitting up for our show and started talking to another crafter. He said that Norco is a wonderful show. He does it every Thanksgiving and loves it. He did say that it is 100% hand crafted and he has seen them make people leave before that had resale.... Did you check into it?

Hi Susie, Thanks for the info. I checked it out thru Craftmaster. Judging by the photos, seems like the majority of shoppers might be women and older folks. I love them dearly, but usually not the type of crowd for a caricature artist. Do you know if they have a good-sized kids area? That is critical to my sales. Also, families as a whole...20-40 age groups and kids are my main customers. Middle-aged women/seniors shopping by themselves or with friends just ignore my booth. I had this type of crowd at last year's Harvest Festival in San Jose and I was lucky to make a small profit after 3 long days. Anyhow, Looks like a nice festival for this particular time of year.

Not sure of the crowd type but I have a feeling you are correct with it being a non family type crowd. I did talk to two more vendors and they love this show. As a matter of fact they have booked both weekends and say they do wonderful there. Good luck on what ever show you pick.

i think i heard of one big show in indio in jan and it is a 10 days show for 2009. the show cost about $2000 and it was busy, many people go there. but do not what kind of customers are they, lot of mexician or not?? i think one of my friend go there and sell only $4000 - $5000 the whole 10 days show, end up only break even or only making a little money after all cost. i only know that little. you may dig more by calling indio chamber of commerce for more information?? Just wondering what its like at the Indio Tamale Festival. I heard one year they got some light rain, but most years its sunny. I guess the dates are Sept. 5th & 6th this year. Thanks for any info.

i used to live in the desert and mechandised the whole Coachella Valley. I remember a time when Indio was not a place you wanted to be in after the sun went down. The farm, migrant workes and date pickers congregated there. No one can convince me that bringing my motorhome, or vendor stock trailer to the area would be safe. No amount of new businesses, new homes, rolling sidewalks, transplanted date trees, waterfalls, or well watered and manicured lawns will sway me otherwise.

OH. September.....Monsoon season... your weather is still stifeling! I'd gather to say in the mid-high 80's to 90's. The mist and light rain just makes it muggy and hard to breathe! You sweat like mad and the customers are grouchy, have no patience and everyone's uncomfortable.
