Here's a chance to tell about experiences in restaurants, etc.,when you are on the road doing shows. Anything goes, no holds barred. Good experiences, great food, nightmares, bad patrons? Let's hear it.

I have many stories about restaurants, etc. and I'll start things off. I will be posting more later and on Starving Vendors website. Maybe we'll get more people resonding.
In February 2007, I did the Lake Havasu Winterfest. (NOTE: Nice place to in winter and the show was pretty decent over the years, but with the economy....?)
My wife and I went over to the Black Bear restaurant and stood in line with about a dozen other people. When I was the second in line, the waitress called out to the guy in front of me. He did not respond because he had his cell phone sticking in his ear. She called out again.. STRIKE TWO!! I looked at her and she called out once more. STRIKE THREE. I then stepped in front of him and just as the waitress was showing me to my seat, he began yelling, "I'm next. I'm waiting for somebody.' I looked at him and laughed. "Well you were on your cell phone and she called for you, but you weren't responding. I am sorry, I am hungry. You'll just have to wait."
Did he ever get mad. He was ready to strike blows with me. Anyhow, I was seated and it took me awhile to get service. About 15 minutes and when I got the attention of the waitress, she responded "oh, I'm sorry." So, my wife and I ordered some of their fish and chips (all you can eat) platter's. After I got my order, I asked the lady for some vinegar and she came back ten minutes later with it I never ate at a Black Bear again. Not impressed at all.
In a few days, I'll tell you the story about the waitress in Auburn that quit in the middle of my order.

I rarely eat out on the road. I try to pack healthy food I can eat in the booth all day... by the end of the day, I'm not usually hungry but tired and ready for bed.
Lately I am trying to make my cooler food much yummier. Last fall at one particular show, I was so proud of myself for my excellent show food planning... I made a cucumber salad, sandwiches, even had a one-burner stove to make coffee in the morning. I was doing great! Even that last sandwich... I ate it Sunday afternoon, and it tasted fine. All was well.
Until about 9pm when I was a couple hours from home... I picked up an iced tea, had one drink and bam! Bad cramps and tummy ache. Bad. Finally during the last stretch before home, I had to pull over twice to get sick. I almost thought I'd have to call my man to come get me. I did make it home, but I was very sick all night.
Lesson learned. No mayo in the cooler, new rule.
My new favorite thing to get for trips is pre-made salad from the grocery deli... not in the bag, but in the plastic container with all the yummy stuff in it. The dressings are in little pouches, no prob. Also, on my way out of town , I get a fresh deli sandwich... 1/2 eaten on the spot, 1/2 to eat when I get to the show. I also get fruit, granola bars, crackers, cheese, a caffeinated drink (in case there's no coffee), a jug of water and a block of ice.
