OK. Here goes.
I pulled into my space in Quartzsite in Late December to be sure that I could fit. The space beside me was empty, but they filled quickly all around it. The night before the first show was to begin, I hear all sorts of noise, cursing, and so on, but it ended soon enough and we all went back to sleep. The next morning, I hear a truck running and again all sorts of unpleasant commotion. I decide that I had better just look to make sure that MY rig doesn't get sideswiped. This guy was ranting and raving about his space that he's trying to squeeze a 30+ foot trailer in. Charlie, (the head maintenance guy... & Vietnam Vet) was quiet, but you could tell that he was about to strangle the guy as he went off on Kym Scott, ( the owner of the venue) about being promised he'd be able to get into his space, and HE shouldn't have to pay a forklift service to get in..... ON & ON. Finally, they got that settled, and I thought the rest of the show might be OK.
Now mind you, we now had to share an electrical stanchion, & sewer hook up. I was there first, so I took the one I wanted. I was already told by Charlie that we'd have to be mindful of the usage because we'd pop the breakers and if it happened at night, too bad for us, he wasn't getting out of bed! So, I switched everything over to propane, and was extra careful to not run 2 things at once. Not even 2.5 hours after he set up, the breakers blew. They continued to blow on a VERY regular basis, (1-2 times a day) no matter what ~I~ did. He came over screaming and hollering at me that it was MY FAULT and that I needed to stop running my washer, & hogging the electric. a real scene making jerk!
Middle of the night and we are sitting in the absolute dark, watching TV and it blew, he flies out of his trailer and started cussing and screaming again. Got another maintenance guy out of bed to reset the breakers and gave him an ear full that ~I~ am doing something in my rig to cause HIS woes. (I can hear it all in my rig, mind you!)
By this time, I was more than a bit PEEVED. Charlie came over and told me that we needed to be civil to one another and I needed to apologize to him. I looked at him DEAD PAN, and told him. "Charlie, I promise you, I will pack up and leave before I will apologize to HIM!" He didn't force the issue!
2 days later, I had to dump my sewer tanks and went between the spaces. A 15 amp cord was plugged in (so there were 3 cords) and run under his awning to run his ~nut roasting machine~. I immediately took off to the office to warn them, "It's gonna blow again!, & you better see for yourself WHY!" Before I even got back, it had already blown, but in the mean time, HE ran around and unplugged his house current to try to claim that he was "only using the 110 plug not 2 cords & I AGAIN CAUSED IT TO BLOW."
Charlie finally had me unplug & run my electric under my rig and plug it in separately. I didn't blow another breaker. Oh, but he sure did. Even after I moved to my new space, he had it out with his new neighbors and accused them of the same thing. Come to find out, he was making his fudge in his trailer at night and using several bake ovens, as well as the nut roaster. He got so bold as to even run his extension cords over to other outlets 50 feet away and plug in so he could use the electricity off them. After he started in on the new unsuspecting neighbor, he was finally told to leave, 3 days into the big show and told he should look for another venue to try to sell at. ;D
Occasionally there is true justice in this life. Walking past his empty space after hearing what had happened, was one of them! I smiled every time I walked by! (shame on me!)
