This is a town wide celebration that has happened since 1948 in Northfield MN. Setting aside the fact that my husband's family is a cousin to Jesse James, so it would be a boat load of fun just to be here.. They have all sorts of events, but it appears that they haven't had vendors (Except food vendors) at this event. I sent an inquiry, and got a quick reply & was asked to send pictures for the "food vendor coordinator" to pass along to the different committees involved in this town event to see what they can do. She seemed quite interested in the idea. What is your opinion of this? I am torn. On ine side, it could be a great opportunity to sell, (& I could gear it towards western or tractor real easy.) as they don't have a whole lot to buy from, could be well for me, but on the other hand, they might not be geared to buy, if they haven't had vendors there in the past. Can some of you tell me your experiences? Thanks!

Sorry Dave. I forgot to add the state. It is in Northfield MN. Jesse James went up to MN to clean the banks out. what he didn't expect was the whole town to pick up arms and fire back. He and his gang got their butts kicked. Good historical story!

Maybe I should also clairify. I am inquiring as to your personal experiences with venues that are new to adding vendor stands to the line up, in long existing celebrations. Would you risk it, if the space fee was minimal, or let it get a few years underway before attempting it? I have 2 other venues that are pretty wet behind the ears, and just not sure...

We have a local Oyster Festival here that is over 20 yrs old (30?), it's mainly a food event with music. A few yrs ago they added crafts booths and I did the show twice.
Pros - It's close to home, it's a very well attended show so thousands of people, and I did good sales overall.
Cons - the booths were placed outside of the main show area. The show is on a central plaza, the crafts were placed along 2 side streets... which would have been fine, but they wouldn't let folks carry their beers past the corner where the crafts start. Grrr. Also the price was pretty high for a one day show.
I think they did this for 3-4 yrs total. Crafters dropped off (and we have a very big artsy community here) until they changed it to a children's activity area... any crafts must be geared toward kids.
So, I guess the moral is... if the placement is good and cost not too high, go for it! Especially since you have the right product for the crowd.

p.s. I did wait to hear how it went the first year, then did it the 2nd year... still I think I would have done well from the start.
Hm so why did I stop doing it? I don't like doing 1 day shows as a rule... and it angered me that they cut us off from the drinkers (most everyone). Even though my sales were pretty good, the frustration and cost won in the end.

Thanks, bMermaid! (I missed your post, sorry for the delay). I too am not keen on doing 1 day shows. Stuff is too heavy and takes a long time to get it all set up. I haven't heard back from them yet.. We'll see!
