I really hope that I can get a response for this one. I am probably going to do Mike Knapp's Cambria show in September. However, that is the same weekend for Newark Day's here in the Bay Area. I did that show 2 years ago and did poorly, but I am looking at my total expenses for that weekend, since we have to drive 210 miles each way to Cambria and motel it for 2 nights.
Did anybody do Newark Day's last year? When I did it, we had some unusual September rain and that put a damper on things. The bad thing about it is that they had our booths located in a parking lot, which was enroute to the carnival and food areas and few people buying. They just raced by. I think that if they put vendors booths elsewhere, this might be a decent show.
Let's hear it.

Hi Dave, Yes, I did the Newark Days when you did, but I didn't know you back then. It was back in 2007, I think. Yeah, the rain messed things up. I was over near the carnival area. I remember they had alot of vendors over in the parking lot like you mentioned. Strange set-up. It wasn't that great back in 2007, so I totally skipped it last year. Only if it falls on a weekend where I'm not doing anything else, then I might do it. I remember the crowd was sparse back then. Even with the carnival there. I think the best day of the three days was Sunday. I remember there was a guy that was selling lots and lots of various birds.

Hi Nito. Thabks for responding. I think that I recall somebody selling birds on the other side of the parking lot. I was on the end closer to the carnival. I saw some vendors in the carnival area selling and they seemed to be doing much better than those in the parking lot. There were a few vendors who stayed open after it was dark and they 'picked off' a good number of people leaving for some last minute sales.
Debating on whether to pay the added expenses for a Cambria trip or to stay local with Newark. There is a Filipino Festival in Daly City. Last year it was in June and a bunch of us did it and it was horrible. Had to use THEIR canopies and that completely ruined my setup because I use grids and I had problems positioning them, especially with the huge gusts of wind. You can read my review about it; it's on the website. It's just a social gathering with some food and entertainment. Weather was ugly.
60 percent chance I do Cambria; 20 percent chance for Newark; 20 percent that a miracle happens. Are you doing the Zucchini in Hayward in August?

Hi Dave, No, I won't be doing the Zucchini Fest, although I was seriously considering it. Just got word from FestivalProductions2.com that they will be promoting their very first Newark Summer Fest Aug. 22nd & 23rd. These guys also promote the Foster City Art & Wine and the Castro Valley Fest. They have not listed a projected attendance figure. I guess it will be at Newpark Mall. Sounds like it might be a smaller event, but I'm going to try it, since I won't be doing Newark Days in Sept.
